A Continuous Rod System Designed Around the Installer

Telenco manufactures the TED® Cobra as a complete professional rodding system rather than simply supplying a coil of fibreglass rod. The rod, frame, guide system, brake and handling points are designed to work together during repeated cable installation and duct work.

The heavy-duty premium fibreglass rod is mounted within a tubular steel frame equipped with puncture-resistant solid wheels, providing mobility across working sites while protecting and controlling the rod.

Two removable guiding rings allow the system to be configured in different working positions. This gives engineers more flexibility over the rod exit angle depending on the location and orientation of the duct being accessed.

Replaceable by Design

Why Replace the Rod Instead of the Whole Cobra?

A fibreglass rod is the working component of a cobra system and, after extensive use, it may eventually need replacement. That does not mean the steel frame, wheels, brake and guide system have reached the end of their useful life.

The TED® Cobra is specifically designed so the rod can be replaced using a secured process. Telenco's datasheet describes this as a one-person rod replacement operation, allowing the existing frame to remain in service.

This modular approach makes replacement more cost-conscious because users can purchase the component that actually needs renewing rather than buying another complete rod and cage assembly.

Replace What Is Worn, Keep What Is Still Working

Replacement rods provide a more resource-conscious way to maintain a continuous rodding system. Retaining a serviceable steel frame, wheels, brake and guide assembly avoids replacing more material than necessary. For contractors operating multiple Cobra systems, this can help reduce both replacement expenditure and unnecessary material waste over the working life of the equipment.

Whole-Life Cost

A More Cost-Sensitive Approach to Equipment Maintenance

Professional installation equipment should be considered over its entire working life, not simply by the initial purchase price. Replaceable components can significantly change the long-term cost of maintaining equipment used every day.

With TED® Cobra, the frame is designed for durability and long-term use while the fibreglass rod can be renewed separately. This means damage or wear to the rod does not automatically require investment in another complete Cobra.

For installation teams with multiple units in regular use, replacement rods also provide a practical way to maintain operational equipment without accumulating unnecessary spare frames.

Site Productivity

Designed for Repeated Daily Duct Work

A continuous duct rod needs to remain manageable as well as strong. The TED® Cobra frame incorporates features intended to make deploying and recovering the rod easier during regular field use.

The two switchable guiding rings can be positioned at the upper or lower part of the frame to achieve a more suitable access angle. When rewinding, the upper position can use the stored energy within the rod to assist the recovery process.

An external rapid brake system gives the operator control over rod deployment and unreeling speed, while the large hand and foot grip areas provide stable handling during operation.

Working Flexibility

Four Working Positions for Different Duct Access Points

Duct access is rarely identical from one site to the next. Chambers, cabinets, roadside ducts and underground networks can all present different working angles and access constraints.

The modular TED® frame provides four working positions, allowing the holding tube and guiding system to be configured towards either side of the frame and around the position of the wheels and brake.

This flexibility helps engineers position the Cobra around the work rather than forcing the duct entry point to suit a fixed rod orientation.

Rod Options

Different Diameters and Lengths for Different Projects

Telenco manufactures TED® Cobra systems with different rod diameters and lengths, allowing contractors to select a configuration around the scale and demands of the duct route.

Mainroad TED® Cobras are available with premium fibreglass rods in 9 mm, 11 mm and 14 mm diameters. Available lengths extend from 100 metres through to 350 metres depending on rod diameter.

Replacement rods are also available across multiple sizes, enabling the original frame to continue being used when the working rod needs to be renewed.

Cable Installation

Built for Cable Pulling & Drawrope Deployment

TED® continuous rods are designed for the practical requirements of duct installation work, including cable pulling, duct proving and drawrope deployment.

The continuous fibreglass construction provides the combination of strength and flexibility required to push through duct routes, while the frame allows the rod to be deployed and recovered in a controlled manner.

Optional accessories including repair kits, flexible guide tips, localisation probes, drawrope and cable lubricant allow the Cobra system to form part of a wider duct installation toolkit.

Manufacturing Equipment Around Real Installation Work

The TED® Cobra reflects Telenco's approach to manufacturing equipment around the way engineers actually use it in the field. Durability, mobility, operator control and maintainability are considered as part of the complete system.

Designing the frame around a secured replacement process is an important part of that approach. It allows a durable frame to remain in service while the working fibreglass component is renewed when required.

The result is a professional continuous rodding solution designed not only for the immediate installation task, but also for repeated use and practical maintenance throughout its working life.
